MIDGARDSBLOT 2026

Her senkes mørket over publikum idet bandet fyller hallen med tunge, mørke og suggererende toner.

-Kristin-

Bonfire

-Kvile & KC-

Wolves In The Throneroom

-Toril & KC-

Between Two Worlds

-Heidi-

Venom – Welcome to Hell (45th Anniversary)

-Kristin-

I Am Morbid

Turbonegro

-Kristin-

Rock the Night

Det passer nesten perfekt at været letter akkurat her.

84 år eller ei – Arthur Brown vet fortsatt hvordan man lager show. -Kvile & KC-

Gjelder å go with the flow. -Kristin-

Runahild

-Toril-

Music In Low Frequencies hace honor a su nombre. -Toril & KC-

Urkvinnen

-Kvile & KC-

Wolves In The Throne Room

-Toril & KC-

Between Two Worlds

Hacia el final escuchamos, entre otras, «The Storm I Ride» y «Warriors». Bien hecho. -Kvile & KC-

Mira Ceti

-Heidi-

Venom – Welcome to Hell (45th Anniversary)

Esperamos poder volver a verlos pronto. Qué concierto. -Kristin-

I Am Morbid

-Kristin-

Rock the Night

-Kvile & KC-

Mystery

Ganadores del Helvete i Vestfold Band Battle.

-Kristin, Kvile, Toril, Heidi y KC-

Past and present meet, and this year’s Midgardsblot is brought to life. Let the Blot begin!Cheers – and welcome to four days in the spirit of the Vikings!

WEDNESDAY

Nemur opens the main stage with spiritual tones and creates an almost magical setting for the start of today’s programme. In fact, the heavy clouds hanging over the area fit the mood perfectly, adding just the right atmosphere before the solar eclipse expected later today. At the same time, things are not looking too promising for those of us hoping to actually see the eclipse, as the cloud cover refuses to let go. But there is not much we can do about the weather – and the music continues regardless. There is still plenty of space in front of the stage, but people are slowly and steadily starting to arrive. Midgardsblot is underway – and the day has only just begun. -Kvile & KC-

Taake

The band is well known to most black metal enthusiasts, and expectations were high when they entered the Helheim stage right beside the burial mounds at Borre. Full throttle from the very beginning, and the band practically crushed the stage in front of a lively crowd. Frontman Hoest looks sinister in black-and-white corpse paint and a black hooded cape while running around the stage. His theatrical performance and charisma are very much his trademark. This was a no-compromise performance that gave the audience a proper kick-start. It was simply raw. -Kristin-

Mawiza shows us a slightly different side of themselves in Gildehallen today, with a partly acoustic set before they turn up the heaviness and go more uncompromisingly metal tomorrow. With vocals, masks, flutes and traditional elements, they create a completely unique atmosphere that in many ways takes us across the Atlantic and into another culture and another musical landscape. It feels intimate, spiritual and powerful all at once – and Gildehallen is the perfect setting for this side of Mawiza’s expression. Today we got to experience the roots and the atmosphere. Tomorrow comes the heaviness. -Kvile & KC-

Hexxen

From Taake it was only a short walk to Helheim Lounge, the new intimate stage at the festival site. The music had a Norse character, and they played both old and modern instruments. The captivating dance and rhythm of the ritual appealed to the audience, and the small stage was perfect for these intimate and informal performances. -Kristin-

Songleikr

When we first saw the name Songleikr on the programme, we were not quite sure what to expect. Was this the Viking Age equivalent of sing-alongs and cheerful singing games – or was it actually a band? A pleasant gathering it certainly became. Songleikr had the honour of accompanying the announced solar eclipse, which unfortunately chose to stay well hidden behind the heavy cloud cover. Nature’s own show was therefore largely lost to us here at Midgardsblot, but Songleikr at least made sure the audience had something pleasant to listen to – and something to look at. And since the sun refused to make an appearance, the music had to provide the atmosphere instead. The crowd looked like they were enjoying themselves, and there was a good vibe in front of the stage – eclipse or no eclipse. -Toril & KC-

Music In Low Frequencies comes from sunny Portugal, but inside a packed Gildehall there is very little to remind us of sunshine and summer. Darkness settles over the audience as the band fills the hall with heavy, dark and hypnotic tones. The frontwoman switches between synth and powerful growls in a combination that works surprisingly well, while the guys keep the pressure up with guitar and drums. The result is gloomy, intense and atmospheric – and the rustic surroundings of Gildehallen make the whole expression hit even harder. From Portuguese sunshine to darkness in the Viking hall. Music In Low Frequencies certainly lives up to its name. -Toril & KC-

Urkvinnen

The atmosphere was strong around Urkvinnen in Helheim Lounge. Several women moved around her in an almost ceremonial dance, and together with the singing it created an expression that nearly resembled some ancient ritual. Whether they were actually part of the performance or had simply been completely swept away by the atmosphere, we will not claim to know – but the effect was the same either way. The whole thing took on an almost primal feeling, where music, movement and surroundings blended together. Maybe they were simply a few dance-loving women who felt their inner Viking woman awaken at that exact moment. And if so, we cannot really blame them. -Kvile & KC-

Sólstafir

One of Iceland’s bigger bands has played many festivals in recent years. Their cowboy style had never quite clicked with me before now, but after seeing them at Borre, I simply have to admit defeat – the visual side and the musical side came together brilliantly. They walk their own path with their distinctive and melancholic metal style, and it is quite cool that they sing in their native language on several songs. The audience clearly understood that a long time ago. -Kristin-

Bonfire

When most of the bands have packed away their instruments for the evening, there is still plenty of life in Utgård. The festival’s Bonfire is an important part of the Midgardsblot experience, and once darkness settles and the flames take hold, it is not hard to understand why. We had admittedly hoped for some drumming around the fire as well, but that had to wait. The drums came later, of course at almost exactly the same time as we had crawled into our own camp and were trying to get a few hours of sleep. Drums or no drums, people gather around the fire, conversations flow and the flames light up the darkness. After a full day of concerts, there is something special about simply standing there and taking in the atmosphere. With woodsmoke in the air, darkness around us and the people of Midgardsblot gathered around the flames, you can almost feel the Viking vibes in the air. -Toril & KC-

THURSDAY

Nytt Land is first up on Helheim and quickly creates a dark, spiritual and almost hypnotic atmosphere. What truly impresses is the throat singing – both female and male – which gives the music a raw and distinctive power. The deep tones, rhythms and ceremonial expression build an intense atmosphere that fits perfectly into the surroundings of Midgardsblot. The music feels almost more like a journey than a conventional concert, and several people in the audience allow themselves to be swept away, practically dancing themselves into a trance. A strong and atmospheric opening on Helheim – and a set that really sets the tone for the rest of the day. -Kvile & KC-

Despair

One of several young and promising Norwegian bands on the metal scene. They shook the Viking hall and immediately created movement and chaos with raw, dark and heavy black metal. Even though it was a little early for many, there was nothing wrong with their effort or enthusiasm, and plenty of people were headbanging along. -Kristin-

Mawiza has travelled all the way from Chile, and there is no doubt that their roots come with them onto the stage. The band originates from Mapuche culture in Wallmapu, the traditional homeland of the Mapuche people in southern Chile and Argentina, and they even sing in Mapudungun. That gives their metal an expression that clearly stands apart from much of what we usually hear. Here, modern heaviness meets a culture with deep traditions.Mawiza plays metal heavily  seasoned with traditional elements, and the combination works extremely well. Along the way we also get a small surprise when they launch into Metallica’s “Battery.” And this is definitely not a straightforward copy. Mawiza puts their own clear stamp on the song and delivers a fairly original version that raises the temperature in front of the stage by several degrees. It does not take much more before a small moshpit suddenly comes to life among the crowd. -Kvile & KC-

Wolves In The Throne Room

Inspired by nature, the mythical and the mysterious. Black metal with plenty of atmosphere. I thought this was really good. The music was incredibly atmospheric, and I felt myself being drawn into it. It became a hypnotic experience where the music almost seemed to surround me. The sound was very good close to the stage, so I moved farther back to check whether it carried well across the whole area. It turned out that the sound crew had really nailed it. Everything was clear and audible throughout Helheim, to put it that way. Wolves In The Throne Room is an American black metal band that has been around for more than 20 years. Considering how the band has developed over the years, there is no doubt that they fitted in extremely well here, at the edge of the woods at Midgardsblot. They went on stage at 17:30, and even though they therefore did not get the darkness, the Helheim stage is placed in such a way that it is easy to imagine their music alongside the forest, the beach and the magical landscape we know so well from Norway. -Heidi-

Bærzerk

Another young black metal band, with members around 18–19 years old, playing a fairly raw and primitive older-school variant of black metal. There was certainly nothing lacking in the energy department. It is great fun to see young musicians willing to headbang with such intensity and keep such an energetic stage show going. -Kristin-

Cathinca van Sprundel

The ethereal tones and beautiful, almost floating voice of Dutch Cathinca van Sprundel really deserved to fill the space on their own. Instead, she occasionally had to compete with a fairly high level of chatter coming from the nearby bar area. It is a little unfortunate that the stage hosting several of the festival’s more traditional and pagan acts is placed this year inside an area with a 20-year age limit and at the same time so close to the bar. For this kind of music, the silence around it is almost part of the experience. Cathinca’s voice simply deserved a calmer setting where the audience could properly sink into the atmosphere without conversations in the background taking up so much space. -Toril & KC-

Between Two Worlds

Abbath is here with his new band and gets off to a slightly troubled start – and actually runs into a few small problems towards the end as well. It seems as though not everything is sitting quite as it should, and he occasionally appears a little irritated. But then again, it might simply be that well-known Bergen mood kicking in. Fortunately, the frustration does not last long. Things gradually fall into place, the mood improves considerably, and Abbath returns to the energy and presence we know him for. The crowd stays with him throughout, and what starts off a little uneven quickly develops into good atmosphere and full power in front of the stage. Once the machinery is running, there is little doubt that Abbath still knows exactly how to fire up a festival crowd. Towards the end we get, among others, “The Storm I Ride” and “Warriors.” Well delivered. -Kvile & KC-

Mira Ceti

Mira from France took the audience on a magical journey with her captivating and intense vocals. It was an atmospheric and ritualistic experience where she impressed both with her vocal performance and her movements on stage. As someone in the audience put it: this woman really knows what she’s doing. -Kristin-

John Stenersen was alone on stage throughout the entire concert, but he made brilliant use of his instruments. That included the nyckelharpa, as well as rhythms he had prepared beforehand. He had also put together video footage of various Norwegian landscapes, which helped create an even stronger atmosphere. In truth, it was not really necessary, because during the concert it was easy to picture the many images of Norwegian nature and history anyway. As I experienced it, Stenersen connected extremely well with the attentive and listening audience. Inside Gildehallen a very special atmosphere developed. There was very little small talk, and people had shown up in their costumes. We were simply spellbound. The music was varied, and the audience applauded with both enthusiasm and joy. It is almost impossible to stay in a bad mood when listening to such cheerful and lively music. Stenersen performed a varied repertoire including traditional tunes from different parts of the country, as well as his own material. -Heidi-

Venom – Welcome to Hell (45th Anniversary)

Seeing legends like Venom live is something worth experiencing, and tonight they delivered a historic 45th anniversary concert with a guest list packed with major names such as Nergal from Behemoth, Diva Satanica from Bloodhunter, David Vincent from I Am Morbid and Sakis Tolis from Rotting Christ. There is something very special about metal history being made in a historical place like Borre. The classics came one after another, and they delivered a massive live show proving that they remain a raw and uncompromising band. Legendary. -Kristin-

Folket Bortafor Nordavinden has gradually become a regular feature at Midgardsblot, and this year is no exception. Running into them during the festival has almost become part of the pulse of the event itself. This year, several bands and artists are doing repeated performances across the festival, and we actually think that works very well. It provides pleasant musical breathing spaces between the bigger concerts while also creating more life around the festival grounds. And if you miss one performance because something else is more tempting at that particular moment, all is not lost. There is a good chance you can catch them again later that evening or on one of the following days. Folket Bortafor Nordavinden has, in other words, become one of those returning acts that simply belongs at Midgardsblot. -KC-

FRIDAY

Cutthroat

After a little pleasant rain over the festival grounds, it is time for the first band of the day. Inside Gildehallen there is still room to squeeze in when Cutthroat from Larvik takes the stage. And there is little doubt that the name fits the sound. We are served brutal death metal with weight, punch and just the right amount of darkness to shake off the rain. The rustic setting of Gildehallen also works extremely well around the music and gives everything an even rougher edge. Cutthroat delivers a brutal and effective start to the day. -Kvile & KC-

Backstreet Girls

Then it was time for some delicious boogie rock with Backstreet Girls. Petter was in great form, and the band sounded tighter and more together than we may have been used to before. At the same time, there is slightly less of that old “rock’n’rølp” feeling now – for better and for worse. Some of the raw, loose and slightly chaotic expression seems to have been toned down, while musically everything sits considerably tighter. Whether that is connected to the change of vocalist after former singer Bjørn Müller passed away far too soon and unexpectedly almost two years ago is difficult to say, but naturally the band now has a somewhat different expression. Either way, Backstreet Girls shows that they still have plenty of boogie, swagger and rock’n’roll left in them. -Kvile & KC-

Angell

Black-clad figures appeared on stage, and the three guest musicians wore black veils covering their faces. Angell herself stood out clearly from the rest of the band with her light curls and uncovered face. Because of those veils, I found it difficult to really connect with the band, even though hair was flying both during headbanging and full-on helicopter action. The sound in Gildehallen was good, and because the venue is so small, it almost feels as though you can reach out and touch both the band and the music. We did not need fans to deal with the heat, since the hair helicopters occasionally worked as fans all by themselves. Angell performs a form of progressive black/death metal. It is obvious that they are skilled musicians, but at times I still find the music a little monotonous. It can become somewhat too staccato, and I think the material would benefit from greater variation. But young musicians have to start somewhere, and I am sure we will hear more from this direction in the future. -Heidi-

Nargaroth

The German black metal band played its very first concert on Norwegian soil.Despite delayed travel and delayed baggage and equipment, they held absolutely nothing back during the hard-hitting performance.Wearing heavy leather vests and massive spiked wristbands, the band radiated an aggressive authority that matched the music perfectly.Vocalist Ash looked threatening and demonic in corpse paint and absolutely oozed authority. He commented that it was unusual for them to play a concert in daylight.Daylight or not – for this writer, the concert was one of the highlights.Hopefully we will see them again soon. What a concert. -Kristin-

I Am Morbid

This was the first time I had seen this American death metal band, and what a concert it turned out to be. For fans of old-school death metal, this was top-class material. The band looked like they were having a great time, the vocalist talked between songs and they delivered several older classics. And the beautiful summer weather turned the grass in front of Helheim into one big party. Excellent atmosphere. -Kristin-

Danefae

Two distinguished-looking gentlemen walked onto the stage and almost looked like priests who had taken a wrong turn. They started playing guitar and bass before the rest of the band gradually appeared. There was a clear tension in the music and a certain mystery surrounding what would happen next. The small stage quickly filled with the rest of the band as well as backing singers. I thought the vocals were slightly weak at first, but after a couple of songs Anne Olesen clearly became more confident. She wore headwear that made her look a little like a forest elf. She completely immersed herself in the music and danced as she sang. Danefae had choreographed the performance so that different members took turns at the front of the stage, which kept the show from ever feeling static. Danefae’s music contains plenty of variation and is prog rock that really catches your attention. The drummer was a joy to listen to, and it is easy to understand that he received his musical education at the Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg, Denmark. The band has released a couple of albums and, based on this concert, Danefae is definitely a band I am going to explore further. -Heidi-

Skáld

The music of Skáld occupies much of the same territory as the better-known band Heilung. They deliver strong rhythms that quickly get the audience dancing. Valhalla is situated just beyond Gildehallen, and the proximity to the stage makes it easy to see what is happening up there. Visually, it is a beautiful spectacle. The musicians are dressed in Viking-inspired clothing, and of course many people in the audience have chosen the same style. The afternoon sun shines beautifully on Gildehallen, on us in the crowd and on the artists on stage. Skáld makes frequent use of different percussion instruments, and the deep drums fill the entire area with sound. Marie Potosniak’s bright, powerful and beautiful voice is a joy to hear, while the darker male vocals add both depth and dynamics. The lyrics are mainly in Old Norse, although Skáld is not afraid to bring in more modern Nordic languages either. That makes the whole expression even more mysterious and fits extremely well with the hypnotic music performed by this French band. -Heidi-

Vreid opens the concert with a tribute to both Runa, the festival’s founder, and Ozzy, setting a personal and respectful tone from the very beginning. The band fits Midgardsblot like a glove, with its dark Norwegian expression and proud connection to its home region. There is no hiding where they come from – the Sogndal metal is carried proudly and shared with an audience that clearly appreciates the heaviness, identity and atmosphere. Everything feels completely natural in these surroundings. Vreid and Midgardsblot are simply a combination that makes sense. -Toril & KC-

Voidspire

The next band out was a death metal band from Oslo made up of experienced musicians. With thundering drums and loud riffs, the venue shook with intensity. Concerts inside Gildehallen, which is often packed with people, feel intimate and extremely intense. -Kristin-

Gehenna

There was a bit of waiting in front of the Valhalla stage under the blazing sun before Norwegian Gehenna appeared with corpse paint and attitude. With their appearances being relatively rare, many were excited to hear what they had to offer. The soundscape came across as pitch-black, heavy and atmospheric black metal that built towards a ritualistic mood rather than catchy melodies. A type of classic early-1990s black metal. Nothing to do here but enjoy it. -Kristin-

Turbonegro

Norwegian Turbonegro was the final band on Helheim this Friday. On the way towards the concert area there were plenty of white hats and lots of black makeup, clearly in honour of the band and its distinctive image. The concert began with a violent and wonderful blast of punk rock. The crowd cheered and literally threw themselves into it from the first moment. It is obvious that these guys have many years of experience, and they give everything on stage. Watching and listening to Turbonegro is not boring for a single second. There was stagediving and full-on action throughout the entire concert. One guy asked if I wanted to be lifted up and carried over the crowd in time with the music. I politely declined, but ended up in the moshpit instead. There was pure joy among the fans, who sang along to the band’s songs. We can safely say that Turbo fans know how to let themselves go. As darkness fell, the rain started as well. But it did not matter – the audience remained just as enthusiastic. Hats and makeup were eventually all over the place and the battle was nearing its end. But the fans were clearly both happy and satisfied. All in all, a brilliant and highly energetic concert. -Heidi-

Veliu Namai

The concert, which started at 23:00, got off to a slightly poor start. It began to rain, and the area in front of the stage was a little sparse. That was a shame, because they had placed many burning candles both on and in front of the stage, giving the feeling that we were taking part in some kind of sacred ritual. Combined with the smell of exotic incense, the atmosphere was very special. One of the band members wore something resembling a burka and stood there with a shaman drum. The music began quietly with a mixture of shamanistic elements, traditional Baltic paganism and trance-like rhythms. Unfortunately, this writer only managed to catch a couple of songs while the atmosphere was building. Visually, quite cool. -Kristin-

SATURDAY

Tyranny

A new-generation metal band and winners of the Band Battle. The festival has really managed to include several young surprises, and the new generation brings fresh energy and new life to the line-up. What they all have in common is hard riffs, raw energy, lots of headbanging and full power. -Kristin-

Leperpest

The first of the next-generation metal bands on the Valhalla stage. From the very first note, it was complete overdrive. The band entered the stage drenched in blood and blasted away with extreme, aggressive energy that immediately whipped the crowd into a frenzy. They radiated pure joy in playing while the vocalist roared into the microphone with a manic stare. This certainly brought life to the front of the stage. -Kristin-

Rock the Night

Europe – or rather the tribute version, Rock the Night – rocks perfectly well, but this is without a doubt the smallest crowd we have seen in front of the main stage so far. Naturally, that affects the atmosphere somewhat, even though the band themselves keep things moving. On the ballad “Carrie,” the additional female vocalist gets a good opportunity to show off her voice, and this is where the setup works particularly well. The rest of the set is more straightforward Europe territory, and naturally the crowd gets the songs they expect. From “Carrie” we move on to “Cherokee,” putting us firmly back in the familiar 1980s rock landscape. Not exactly the biggest sea of people at the festival, but those standing in front of the stage seem to be enjoying themselves. -Kvile & KC-

Mystery

Winners of the Helvete i Vestfold Band Battle. It is clear that Midgardsblot has become an arena for up-and-coming bands where they can show what they are capable of. And they certainly do not hold back when it comes to intensity and energy. Full power. -Kristin-

Koldbrann

They delivered one of their few but highly anticipated festival appearances in Norway this summer, and the audience was more than ready. Led by frontman Mannevond, they shook the Valhalla stage in broad daylight with their characteristic hell-bent live show. Mannevond whipped the crowd into complete overdrive. We were also going to hear several of the new tracks from the album “Ingen Skånsel.” I have to agree with the claim that this was a display of power like few others. Absolutely brilliant. -Kristin-

Trio Oro

At Helheim Lounge, Trio Oro gives us a small and very pleasant taste of what awaits later tonight in Gildehallen. With light, sweet tones and a relaxed atmosphere, they quickly get several members of the audience moving, and some allow themselves to be completely swept away by the dancing. It becomes a nice musical breathing space between the heavier acts at the festival – while at the same time being just enough to spark curiosity before the full concert later tonight. A small teaser, but definitely enough to make us want more. -Heidi-

Einherjer definitely does not need to cry wolf to get the audience on board. Everything works from the first moment, with Norwegian Viking black metal, solid punch and a sound that hits exactly as it should. The Norwegian language, both in the vocals and between songs, naturally fits perfectly within the Midgardsblot setting and adds even more identity to the concert. The crowd is fully engaged, and the band has no trouble keeping everyone’s attention. Midway through, things calm down a little more than this writer personally would have liked. A ballad or two could happily have been replaced with even more heaviness and speed – but fortunately it builds up again, and towards the end it really takes off. Einherjer delivers exactly the kind of Norwegian Viking metal that belongs here. -Kvile & KC-

Mortal Fear

A young local band given the opportunity to play on home ground. With lightning-fast thrash metal mixed with aggressive hardcore punk energy, the atmosphere was quickly whipped up. And the traditional moshpit became every bit as chaotic as you would expect from that level of intensity. -Kristin-

Forndom had to cancel earlier tonight because of the rain, but fortunately gets another chance later – even though that means competing directly with Saxon. The contrast could hardly be greater. On the main stage, classic heavy metal is thundering away, while Forndom creates a much darker, calmer and more hypnotic atmosphere. Even so, they hold on well to their own audience, and the turnout is certainly nothing to complain about. Saxon can only be heard as a distant rumble in the background, and right here that actually feels completely right. This is exactly the kind of dark, hypnotic sound we want drifting through the canvas of our tents late at night and becoming part of the entire Midgardsblot experience. -Toril & KC-

Nebala gets the honour of welcoming the sun back to the main stage after a round of rain, lightning and thunder over the festival site. It almost feels perfect that the weather clears exactly here. The rhythms spread across the area, the audience starts to sway along, and after being both wet and slightly cold, it feels as though warmth gradually finds its way back into the body. With the sun returning and Nebala providing the soundtrack, the entire area gets a small lift. Sometimes all it takes is the right rhythms and a glimpse of sunshine to get the festival pulse properly going again. -Toril & KC-

Arachno

The last of the new-generation bands and young talents was this hard-hitting thrash metal band. Energy, punch and uncompromising metal are common traits among all these new bands. It is important that they get the chance to show what they can do so that the metal genre can continue to live and evolve. -Kristin-

Arthur Brown

If anyone should feel that Arthur Brown is getting too old for this – which, by the way, nobody seems to think – we can simply point out that the man is now well past eighty. There are probably not many people at Midgardsblot who can beat Arthur Brown when it comes to the number of costume changes during a concert, and possibly not when it comes to creating a good atmosphere among the crowd either. He is still theatrical, eccentric and completely himself – exactly as you would hope. And the audience is with him. At one point, what may be the most peaceful moshpit in the world appears: people politely walk around in a circle without elbows, shoving or even the slightest hint of chaos. A kind of very civilised Viking version of a circle pit. 84 years old or not – Arthur Brown still knows how to put on a show. -Kvile & KC-

Saxon delivers exactly what you hope for from a band with this level of experience and weight behind them. The sound is close to perfect, the band sounds tight and powerful, and everything is topped off by Biff Byford on vocals, who still has both the voice and the authority needed to own a stage of this size. It is simply classic heavy metal delivered with experience, presence and respect for their own material. The audience gets exactly what they came for, and the atmosphere remains strong right up until the final note. And of course, you cannot end a Saxon concert without “Princess of the Night.” When it arrives as the final song, it also feels like exactly the right and worthy way to close the festival’s main stage. -Kvile & KC-

Trio Oro

The festival is drawing to a close, and the final band inside the hall consists of three young men playing colourful folk music with instruments including flute, guitar and djembe. It is both magical and intense, and the rhythms are heavy. The audience clearly appreciates the distinctive style. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow. -Kristin-

Runahild

The final concert of Midgardsblot is performed by Runahild on Valhalla, three quarters of an hour later than scheduled in order to make room for Forndom. The  audience does not appear to have any desire to call it a night despite another few drops of rain and one of the more alternative musical expressions of the festival. Runahild brings with her atmospheres from the deep forests and fortunately manages to drown out the terrible DJ music being blasted from Helheim Lounge. -Toril-

And with that, this year’s Midgardsblot was over. The Vikings lay down their oars – or at least pack up camp, brush off the dust, rain and bonfire smoke, and begin the journey home. Four days of music, rituals, history, community and a completely unique atmosphere are now part of history for this year. Some head home with tired legs, others with hoarse voices, and most with their heads full of impressions and memories that will stay with them for a long time.Midgardsblot is more than just concerts. It is the atmosphere, the people, the surroundings and the feeling of stepping away from everyday life for a few days and into a world where past and present meet. All that remains is to thank everyone, pack down the rest of the camp and start the countdown to next year’s Blot.

Until next time, Midgardsblot. Cheers – and thank you for this year.
